The South Dublin Mount Rushmore is as impressive a foursome to have been picked thus far in our series, but how does it compare to the northside equivalent?
The four from north of the Liffey were picked on OTB AM yesterday, and today we had representatives from soccer, GAA, boxing, and golf make the South Dublin list.
Tomorrow the full Dublin eight will be narrowed to just four - an unenviable task to say the least. Here is the South Dublin Mount Rushmore:
===
SOCCER - Paul McGrath
Ooh ah. McGrath is one of only six defenders to have won the PFA Players' Player of the Year award cross-channel, and spent seven seasons each at Manchester United and Aston Villa.
McGrath is also unquestionably one of the Republic of Ireland's greatest players of all time, and someone held in high esteem by the late, great Jack Charlton.
The Inchicore man earned 83 international caps, and represented the Republic at Euro '88, as well as the World Cup in 1990 and 1994.
===
GAELIC FOOTBALL - Jim Gavin
Has there ever been one figure so vital to a county's GAA success?
The manager of the Dublin senior footballers from 2012 until last year, Gavin helped the capital side to six All-Ireland titles and five National Leagues.
He was also a star player on the Dubs' team that lifted Sam Maguire in 1995, and was awarded the Freedom of Dublin by the City Council in 2019.
===
BOXING - Michael Carruth
An Olympic gold medal would be enough to get you automatically on most other county Mount Rushmores, and Carruth is deservedly in the top select here.
He won the medal in the welterweight division at the Barcelona Games in 1992 - Ireland's first boxing gold at any Olympics.
It was the country's first gold in any event since Ronnie Delany in Melbourne in 1956 - and to celebrate, the price of a pint in the country was reduced to that of '56 on Carruth's return to Dublin Airport.
===
GOLF - Pádraig Harrington
Those years of huge success for Harrington in 2007 and 2008 will always hold a special place in the hearts of many Irish sports fans.
The Rathfarnham native won the Open championship in both years, as well as the PGA Championship in 2008.
Harrington spent an incredible 300 weeks in the top-10 of the world rankings, and will be the captain of Europe's Ryder Cup team at next year's re-scheduled event.
