Sligo manager Niall Carew has said his side were disrespected before Sunday's Connacht Championship match in New York.
The American side were touted by many to win their first game since joining the Connacht Championship in 1999. In the end, Sligo pulled away in the last 10 minutes to win by eight points.
"Everyone in the country and New York, expected New York to win," Carew told Ocean FM after the win. "They probably showed us a lot of disrespect with the quality of players we have."
He added: "I just felt they were getting above their station. That nine or 10 point win proved we are on the right road... We knuckled down and got the required result."
"There was no way we were going to lose this game. Absolutely no way... Our lads were so focused. The County Board and all the clubs in Sligo were behind us from day one. They knew how difficult this fixture was."

Carew's comments on how there was "no way" Sligo were going to lose was in stark contrast to what he told Newstalk Breakfast last Thursday.
"If New York beat us on Sunday, it certainly wont be an ambush. We know exactly what we are heading into."
Carew said after Sunday's win: "This New York team were well talked up. They had 14 lads who have already played Championship football with their own counties. It was a difficult fixture for us. If our lads weren't at the right temperature, we could have lost."
Sligo now go on to play Mayo in the Connacht Championship quarter-finals in two weeks time. Carew is hopeful his side can overcome some injury issues before the Castlebar clash.
"We'll make sure we are ready for Mayo in two weeks. We're playing one of the best teams in the country. We have to be ready for that."
Despite the predictions of a New York win, Sligo escaped the Bronx with a win. It will be Leitrim's turn next year to try and stop New York.
