Preview: Table leaders Dublin welcome third place Donegal in Division 1

Division 1: Round 6: Dublin v Donegal, Croke Park, 7pm

GAA headquarters will host the first competitive match between Dublin and Donegal since the latter inflicted an unexpected hammering on the former in the 2014 All-Ireland championship.

Heading into that semi-final, Dublin had the preference of the bookmakers with 1/9 odds backing them to secure a spot in the final but the script was never posted to Jim McGuinness and his charges. But after slipping into a 0-09 0-06 with 30 minutes on the clock, and Dublin narrowly missing two goal chances, the Glenties men found their rhythm.

But 2015 carved out very different journeys for both sides. Donegal capitualted against Mayo, a side who were later dumped out of the championship by Dublin. And Dublin, who were in impeccable form, went on to capture the Sam Maguire from then holders Kerry.

Form so far in the 2016 League has pitched Dublin at the summit of the table while defeats agaisnt Roscommon and Kerry, after a bright start to the campaign, have condemned Donegal to third place on the table.

But tragic events which took place last week, will cast a different complexion on this game. Undoubtedly, the tragic deaths of five family relatives in Buncrana will not be too far from the minds of the Donegal players and it is believed that Dublin GAA are planning to honour their memories during the game with a round of applause in the fifth minute.

Good evening Dubs. As everyone is now well aware, the Donegal seaside town of Buncrana was the scene of a tragic...
