The subhead to Jim McGuinness' latest Irish Times column reads "Negative style has become a parody of what Donegal tried to achieve".
The ex-Donegal boss was reacting to the drawn Connacht football final between Roscommon and Galway amid discussons about defensive football, describing the match as "like a vision of the game in the near future when it may be in ruins".
He also suggested that the GAA could try to combat the temptation to line up ultra defensively with a rule obliging teams to keep at least three players from both teams in the attacking end of the pitch.
McGuinness concluded by admitting that "I know there are probably people who will delight in the irony of my calling for a limited number of defenders".
