Peter Keane: 'Our supporters put everything behind this young side'

Kerry manager Peter Keane has praised the county's supporters for putting "everything behind" his side to achieve.

The Kingdom lost to Dublin at Croke Park in the All-Ireland football final replay at Croke Park yesterday by 1-18 to 15 points. The Boys in Blue completing a historic Five in a Row for the first time in GAA history. Two weeks ago the sides played out a draw at the same venue.

Speaking after the game, Peter Keane said, "there were opportunities that we probably just didn't take.  That'll happen. I suppose, we fought every well to get back into the game.

"We were down five points at one stage in that first half, we got back to level it at half time. Moving on then, into the second half the concession of the goal immediately after half time, but if you're going to concede one it probably gives you 40 minutes to get back.

"And we got it back to about two again, but you're not playing a bad team either. You have to congratulate Dublin with their win today.

"You're playing a team that has five on the trot, and seven in nine years. I'm very very proud of the achievement of our lads and they fought with their shoes on.

"They have players. That's what it comes down to. We can look at something whatever way we want, but at the end of the day, players win games.

"The one thing we noticed since we took over the team, the support we got from the Kerry people and the Kerry public, and the way they rolled in behind this team. The colour and the support, the want from people for this team to achieve.

"They looked at this team as youngsters and they knew they'd make mistakes. But they gave absolutely everything and put everything behind them to get these young fellas over the line."
