Manchester United won their third consecutive match since the departure of José Mourinho with a 4-1 win over struggling Bournemouth at Old Trafford.
Paul Pogba was the star for the home side, scoring twice, as United moved to within three points of Arsenal in 5th place.
Speaking on Off the Ball after the match, former Republic of Ireland manager, Brian Kerr told Neil Treacy: "What's happened that a fella should suddenly play so well haven't not been in the team three weeks ago? He didn't play against Liverpool and didn't get on in the match which means he's not in your best 14 players to play against Liverpool - which was an indication of maybe his performances, some of it, his relationship with the manager, the manager's lack of confidence that he was going to do a job in what was a massive game for them and for Liverpool and for the manager himself. He hadn't got the confidence to play him.
"We've known by the body language from the bits and pieces that we've seen from those videos from the training ground earlier in the season that relationship hasn't been very good. And Pogba, you see games where he's very good - this isn't isolated where he's pulled out a very good match and scored a goal or two and dominated possession and switched the play and played some lovely passes and came up with some gorgeous little flicks and tricks - we've seen that in his game over the past couple of years at times but not frequently enough, not often enough that you're looking at him.
"There should have been no question about the Liverpool match...he's got to start the biggest match of the season. He managed to earn himself a bench spot in that match by his lack of performance on a regular basis, a lack of reliability, maybe a bit of his attitude, maybe a bit of the stuff that frustrates a manager like the size of the ear rings/the colour of the hair, the changing the hairdo, the changing of the boots...but there's other stuff that would appear that you would say: 'Has he got the real commitment - is he a real professional player that nothing else matters to him and only the performance in the game and delivering in the match for his teammates, for his manager, for his club and for the supporters that help pay his wages?'"
"While you're a professional football player - you should be doing the maximum at that club, who have invested in you to get the maximum return and, the supporters can rely on you to perform and he hasn't done that. He's been too unreliable, too flaky around the middle of the field in his commitment," Kerr added.
United head to Newcastle on New Year's Day.
