Paul Finlay retires, after 14-years with Monaghan

Monaghan forward Paul Finlay has announced his retirement from inter-county football.

The Ballybay star made his debut for the county in 2003. He won two Ulster titles, beating Donegal in the final on both occasions, in 2013 and 2015.

Finlay's retirement is the second one to hit the county in recent weeks. Dick Clerkin, who at the time was the longest-serving inter-county footballer in the country, retired at the start of the month.

A second generation star, Finlay followed in the footsteps of his father Kieran, who also played for the county.

He retires as the top scorer in the history of the Monaghan senior team. Finlay scored 5-544 in 168 appearances for Mionaghan, including 151 points in 48 Championship games.

A Sigerson Cup winner with IT Sligo, and also a Vocational Schools All-Ireland champion with Monaghan, Finlay was part of the Ireland team that defeated Australia in 2008, in the International Rules Series in Perth and Melbourne.
