CRICKET - IRELAND BEAT ENGLAND
Paul Stirling feels an aggressive approach with the bat was key in Ireland's seven-wicket victory against England last night.
Andrew Balbirnie's side successively chased down 329 with one ball to spare to defeat the world champions in Southampton.
Stirling top-scored with 142 as Ireland also secured their first points in the World Cup Super League.
England won the three-game One Day International Series by two games to one.

SOCCER - PLAY-OFF FINAL
Fulham are heading back to the Premier League after winning last night's Championship play-off final.
They beat Brentford 2-1 after extra time at Wembley, thanks to two goals from Joe Bryan.
The win means top flight football will return to Craven Cottage just one year after the club were relegated.
The win guarantees the Londoners a financial windfall of 170 million pounds.

WIGAN
Wigan will play League One football next season after the club lost its appeal against a 12-point deduction for going into administration.
An EFL statement says the decision made by the arbitration panel is "final and legally binding."
The outcome also means Barnsley retain their Championship status.

Shelbourne are up to fourth-place in the S-S-E Airtricity League Premier Division.
Ryan Brennan’s first-half header gave Ian Morris' side a 1-nil victory at Finn Harps.

EUROPA LEAGUE
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has vowed to play a strong team against LASK in the Europa League this evening.
United are 5-nil heading into the second-leg of the tie and are set to seal their place in the quarter-finals of the competition.
United will play either FC Copenhagen or Istanbul Başakşehir in the next round.
The Turkish side have a 1-nil advantage going into their second leg.

LOUISE QUINN
Louise Quinn has been named the Republic of Ireland women's senior player of the year.
It's the second time that the 79-times capped defender has won the award.
Quinn recently left Arsenal to move to Italian club Fiorentina.

SNOOKER - WORLD CHAMPS
It was a day of shocks yesterday at the World Snooker Championship with world number four Mark Allen and former world champion Shaun Murphy both knocked out.
Antrim's Allen was beaten by world number 89 Jamie Clarke 10-8, while Murphy was defeated by Thailand's Noppon Saengkham 10 frames to 4.
Today sees the end of the first round ties, before the second round gets underway with John Higgins playing Kurt Maflin and Mark Williams taking on Stuart Bingham.

RUGBY
Munster are set to be without R-G Snyman for the start of next season.
The World Cup-winning lock has revealed that he's been given permission from the Reds to play for South Africa in the upcoming Rugby Championship.
Damian de Allende is also likely to be in the Springboks squad for the tournament, which is due to get underway in New Zealand in November.

TENNIS - NADAL WITHDRAWS
Rafael Nadal will not defend his US Open tennis title after pulling out of the tournament over coronavirus concerns.
He called the health situation "very complicated" when announcing his decision on Twitter.
The event begins in New York at the end of the month.

Defending champion Brooks Koepka thinks Shane Lowry is among his main rivals at this week's PGA Championship.
Koepka will bid to become the first player since the 1950s to win the same Major in three consecutive years when he tees it up in a group with Lowry tomorrow.
The former world number one has praised the Open champion's short game, adding that he expects the Offaly man to be in contention on Sunday.

GAELIC GAMES - CROWD NOISE
Sky Sports could use "enhanced" crowd audio when they broadcast GAA matches later this year.
The Irish Independent reports that the broadcaster is considering the use of "simulated fan noises" should the Championships be played behind closed doors.
Sky deployed the technology during their coverage of the Premier League following the restart.
