New headstone to be unveiled by the GAA for victim of Bloody Sunday massacre

The president of the GAA, Aogán O'Fearghail, will attend a special ceremony to unveil a new headstone for one of the victims of the 1920 Bloody Sunday massacre in Croke Park.

When the dust had settled after the attack, 14 people had lost their lives and scores further were injured.

One of the deceased, Daniel Carroll, was shot in the leg and died two days after the event. He currently lies in an unmarked grave, but due to the efforts of the Bloody Sunday Graves Project with the support of the GAA, a new headstone will be unveiled for him at a ceremony in Glasnevin cemetery tomorrow.

A number of the victims of Bloody Sunday lay in unmarked graves since the tragedy, but a new initiative is looking to give some recognition to those who died that day. Carroll will be the third victim - after James Teehan and Jane Boyle - to have their grave marked properly.

The list of those who died on Bloody Sunday at Croke Park are:

Jane Boyle (26), Lennox St, Dublin.

James Burke (44), Windy Arbour, Dublin.

Daniel Carroll (30) Templederry, Tipperary.

Michael Feery (40), Gardiner Place, Dublin.

Mick Hogan (24), Grangemockler, Tipperary.

Tom Hogan (19), Tankardstown, Limerick.

James Matthews (38) North Cumberland Rd, Dublin.

Patrick O’Dowd (57), Buckingham St, Dublin.

Jerome O’Leary (10), Blessington St, Dublin.

William Robinson (11), Little Britain St, Dublin.

Tom Ryan (27) Glenbrien, Wexford.

John William Scott (14), Fitzroy Ave, Dublin.

James Teehan (26), Tipperary.

Joe Traynor (21), Ballymount, Dublin.
