Owen Mulligan says it was ‘an honour’ playing for London

Three-time All-Ireland winner Owen Mulligan says lining out for London was "an honour" after his side's three-point defeat to Leitrim.

The 35-year-old has moved across the sea for work reasons and was quickly brought in to help coach the London forwards.

London manager Ciaran Deely made him a surprise inclusion in his side's starting XV and speaking after the game, Mulligan expressed his disappointment following the result.

"We are gutted, totally gutted," he said.

"We were unlucky. We have prepared hard this year, spending endless days in the changing ground."

Prior to kick off, the signs were positive for London as the game officially opened their impressive new grounds in the north west of the city. The inclusion of Mulligan came as a timely added boost.

However, two late goals from Ronan Kennedy saved Leitrim's day and set up a semi-final match against Roscommon in the Connacht SFC.

Mulligan insisted that London believed in their abilities heading into the game.

"I was only brought into the squad to help the forwards. It was an honour for me to come out and play for London.

"I wanted to win out there as much as any man out there.

"I’d be the first to admit that when I was on the Tyrone bus, I was laughing at London.

"But the way they have invited me into the squad and the way I have bought into the whole thing. Everyone is asking what’s the difference with Tyrone, but we are all in the results business.

"We are all chasing success and these boys are no different, all from counties around Ireland and a couple of London boys too.

"We trained hard for this, we trained really hard and just threw it away. You saw us hitting the post and then they go down the field and score a goal. But that’s Championship football."
