Monaghan forward out for the season

Monaghan forward Barry McGinn has revealed that he will miss the rest of the season due to a serious knee injury.

The 20-year-old has suffered a torn cruciate ligament, an injury which could see him sidelined for up to six months.

He posted the harrowing news on his social media accounts:

It's reported that McGinn sustained the injury while playing for his county in their U21 Shamrock Cup victory over Derry last Sunday.

McGinn played an instrumental role in Monaghan's Ulster U21 success last year, producing a man-of-the match display in the final against Tyrone.

Prior to his injury, the Doohamlet player was involved with the senior squad and was dispatched from the bench by Malachy O'Rourke for Monaghan's National League clash against Cavan earlier this month.

Monaghan will now have to plan for their Division 1 clash against Kerry this weekend without the services of McGinn, who was proving to be an impressive attacking asset for the side.

Speaking to Irish News, O'Rourke described the loss of McGinn as 'unfortunate for everyone but moreso for Barry because he lives for football, he puts a massive effort into it.'

McGinn also featured in UCD's Sigerson Cup win over UL in the Sigerson Cup last Friday.
