Michael Ryan: Scoreline doesn't reflect on Waterford's ability

Tipperary manager Michael Ryan says that his side's 21-point victory over Waterford this afternoon is not an accurate reflection on Derek McGrath's side.

The Deise were soundly beaten at the Gaelic Grounds and four second-half goals from Ryan's side put the gloss on a sterling Tipperary performance.

"We came to win and we're delighted with that," he told Newstalk Sport's Oisin Langan.

"We must have gotten every bounce in that second half, it certainly looked like that. Goals win matches, we've always been saying that and that came for us. But look, we're thrilled. Delighted with the win. It was a really good team performance from Tipperary.

"I don't think it reflected on Waterford to be fair to them. They're a much better side than that scoreline. Scorelines sometimes belittle a team at a point in time, I think that's the case today.

Ryan added that for all the talk about Waterford's defensive set-up, Tipperary were always going to go out and deploy their own tactics regardless of the opposition.

"We set out our stall to play our game and that's effectively what we did. In terms of how it worked out, today it worked out really well. Be under no illusions, that's an excellent Waterford side. They just didn't get any bounces that I could see out there today. They all seemed to come our way. You get days like that.

"But we're thrilled with the Munster final and it's a very precious thing in Tipperary."
