Michael McCann is not retiring from Antrim duty just yet

Michael McCann has hinted that he may be open to returning to inter-country football this season despite reports that he had decided to leave the Antrim set up.

Reports late last week had linked McCann to retirement as a result of his decision to sit out the Dr. McKenna Cup this year, but he took to Twitter to state that had been misinterpreted as his retiring from the squad altogether.

In a statement made to The Belfast Telegraph, McCann highlighted that his home life has to take priority with two young children, and that the difficult schedule that presents is a huge challenge when it comes to him lining out for the team.

"I have spent 12 years in the Antrim side and as I am still only 31, I feel that I might just have something more to offer at some stage in the future," McCann told The Telegraph.

"The facts of the matter are that at this point in time, I am extremely busy with my gymnasium business, my wife works unsociable hours as a firefighter, and we have two small children.

"As you will appreciate, this does not afford me the ideal background against which to further pursue my inter-county career just now, but I would hope that my circumstances might become a bit more favourable from this perspective sometime in the foreseeable future."
