Former Mayo footballer Pearce Hanley looks set to leave the Brisbane Lions in the AFL.
The 27-year-old moved to the Queensland city in 2007, and have moved through the grades to become the Lions' captain. The team won only three of their 22 games this season finishing second- bottom of the table.
According to Fox Sports Australia, Hanley may be traded to local rival Gold Coast Suns. The Suns finished two places above the Lions, but with six picks in the top 30 in the forthcoming AFL Draft, they may be willing to part with some for Hanley.
"He’s an extremely loyal young man and his brother [Cian] plays at the club, so it would have to be something that enticed both parties for him to leave", Hanley's manager Paul Connors admitted.
Hanley played for Mayo in the past and in an interview with Off the Ball, he admitted he would love to return home and play for his county for a season.
"I dream about that every year to be honest so I'm trying to look in [to see] where there's anything in my contract where if I take a year out and go home, if I could do that and still get paid."
The Ballaghaderreen native has played for Ireland in the International Rules series in 2011 and 2014
