Mayo take semi-final spot by the thread bare margin against Tyrone

Another pulsating chapter has been added to the Mayo v Tyrone championship rivalry with Mayo edging it by the slightest of margins on this occasion.

After being level on nine occasions throughout the meeting, Lee Keegan with just his fifth point of the summer hit the decisive score.

Tyrone had opportunities to force the meeting into extra-time but neither goalkeeper Niall Morgan or Darren McCurry could earn them a reprieve.

It took six minutes for the scoreboard to be disturbed, when Aidan O'Shea sliced a long range shot over the bar to end an early phase of stagnation. And for the remainder of the half, the sides traded scores with Niall Sludden, Cillian O'Connor and Peter Harte all tacking on points.

By half-time, the teams were inseparable, Mayo's Colm Boyle hitting the equaliser. And it was Mayo who took an early lead through their talisman Cillian O'Connor. Peter Harte responded with his third of the day to but Mayo hit three without reply.

The only goal opportunity of the day came to the foot of Connor McAliskey but he was unable to steer his low shot past David Clarke. Again the teams exchanged points which led to a crucial moment of the tie when Tyrone captain Sean Cavanagh was dismissed with a second yellow following a high challenge on Aidan O'Shea.

Mayo assumed control from there and their grip on a one point lead could not be touched.
