Matthew O'Hanlon: "It was a very, very tough game for long periods"

Wexford eased to a comfortable 3-25 to 1-17 win over Laois in their Leinster Senior Hurling Championship quarter-final on Sunday.

Wexford star Matthew O'Hanlon suggests it was a far tougher match than the score suggests.

Speaking to Off the Ball's Nathan Murphy afterwards, he said: "At the beginning, we always knew it was going to be a tough assignment coming to Portlaosie. Laois had three games under their belt from the round-robin, they're battle-hardened and started the game at 100 miles per hour and went three points up on us.

"It took a goal from Harry Kehoe to get us back into it and once we got into a rhythm we picked off some nice scores and went in four or five points up at half-time.

"We knew if we got a fast start to the second half, got three or four scores, stretch the gap and Laois would find it difficult to get back.

"And that, coupled with a couple of sendings-off on their side allowed us to open our shoulders and stretch the lead a bit.

"But look, it was a very, very tough game for long periods, very physical. The conditions out there were really, really hot and it took a lot out of us but we came up here to do a job and win and that's what we did," he added.

Wexford move on to a provincial semi-final against Kilkenny.
