LISTEN: Jim Gavin critical of the Kingdom's carry-on

Dublin boss Jim Gavin was not impressed with Kerry's players following the All-Ireland champions' victory in a fractious league encounter at Fitzgerald Stadium yesterday.

Referee Eddie Kinsella sent off Dubs defender Mick Fitzsimons for a frontal charge on Fionn Fitzgerald late on, not to mention issuing seven yellows and four black cards.

Gavin pointedly shook Fitzsimons' hand as the Cuala man exited the field, and told Radio Kerry's Gary O'Sullivan afterwards: "We went hard at it. In the end we possibly could have got something out of the game deep in the last ten minutes.

"We fought very hard. Kerry put up a big blanket defence and we found it difficult to get through. Overall very happy with the performance."

He added: "Our players played the right way. We took some hits, got up and played the game. Didn't get involved with the referee or any officials, and just tried to play the game as best we could."

Gavin was more cutting on the back of this morning's Irish Daily Star, where he's quoted as saying: "Obviously, we need to look at them (the black and red cards) again. The seem to me to be a bit reactionary.

"A lot of the opposing players seemed to be putting the match officials under pressure.

"Maybe the wrong call was made, and for the sending-off the player seemed to go down quite quickly, so we'll have to have a look at that."
