LISTEN: Jamsie O'Connor reflects on a dramatic game in Thurles

Former Clare hurler Jamsie O'Connor was in the commentary box today as he watched the Banner claim their first national league title since 1978.

It was a dramatic afternoon in Semple Stadium, with Clare staging a late comeback to break Waterford hearts deep in injury time, but the game didn't pass without controversy.

The Deise led by a single score in the third minute of added time when they were denied a free by referee Diarmuid Kirwan for what looked a foul on Jamie Barron, while just moments late Clare were awarded a free that resulted in them leveling the game before they went on to get the winning score.

"It did end in controversy though," says O'Connor.

"It was one of those tussles for possession and to me it looked like a cast iron free for a foul on Jamie Barron and the referee didn't give it.

"Tony Kelly ended up with the ball in his hand and he was fouled. Dan Shanahan and Derek McGrath were apoplectic on the line.

"Kelly nailed the free from inside his own '65 to level it and then seconds later I think it was David Reidy who set up Kelly down along the far sideline and you knew from the roar of the Clare supporters behind him that he had bisected the posts."
