Liam McHale: When it comes to the Connacht final, there's a lot of inexperience in both teams

To the surprise of many, Roscommon will meet Galway and not Mayo in the Connacht SFC final this weekend after Kevin Walsh's side derailed Mayo's quest for six successive provincial titles.

Galway have not won a provincial crown in eight years and speaking to Off The Ball this evening, Liam McHale says that the game will be incredibly open.

"There's a lot of inexperience in both teams," he said, "Kevin Walsh put out five debutantes the last day and this is obviously their first Connacht senior final and Roscommon are in a similar boat. There are a lot of young lads who would have done well at U21 and minor level, but this is a different ball game altogether.

"Physically, mentally and experience-wise, I think this will be very evenly matched. If either side were playing Mayo in the Connacht final their size and experience would be a huge obstacle. Having said that, I think it's going to be a good game and both teams are going to go at it.

"I'd say for the first 15 minutes of the first quarter, there are going to be a lot of mistakes because there are a lot of young fellas out there and they'll probably force the issue for the first little while. But when it all settles down, I think it'll be between two very evenly matched teams."
