Ladies Football Championship quarter-final line up takes shape

The line-up for the quarter-finals of the Ladies Gaelic Football Senior Championship have begun to take shape after the final group phase today.

It was a case of do-or-die between Mayo and Donegal in Bord na Móna O'Connor Park this afternoon and the Westerners came away with a 1-22 to 3-12 win to book their place in the last eight, alongside already qualified Tyrone.

Peter Leahy's full-forward line alone of Grace Kelly, Rachel Kearns and Sarah Rowe scored an impressive 1-20 of that score.

The result ends Donegal's Brendan Martin Cup hopes for 2019.

Dublin meanwhile stormed into the next round with a massive 3-20 to 4 point win over Monaghan at Parnell Park.

Goals from Sinead Aherne, Noelle Healy and Caoimhe O'Connor have kept Mick Bohan's charges on track for three-in-row.

They top their group and will next face Kerry or Westmeath, who meet tomorrow, while Monaghan will need to regroup for a relegation battle.

Armagh then put in a seriously impressive shift against Cork, beating the Rebels on a scoreline of 4-9 to 3-11, also at O'Connor Park.

The Ulster finalists were rank outsiders coming into this contest.

Then with just 13 minutes remaining on the clock, they established a shock 4-9 to 1-8 lead and held on to beat the come-back specialists by a point.

Tomorrow, it’s a winner-takes-all clash in Group 3, as Kerry and Westmeath lock horns at Fitzgerald Stadium in Killarney.

Both sides have lost to already-qualified Galway, but second place is still up for grabs.

There are two changes in the Kingdom defence, with Julie O’Sullivan and Eilis Lynch drafted in ahead of Laoise Coghlan and Ciara O’Brien.

Westmeath are unchanged as they prepare to make the trip to Kerry for the pivotal tie.
