Jack McCarron will miss the rest of Monaghan's inter-county campaign.
His Farney County manager Seamus McEnaney confirmed the corner-forward suffered a knee injury while on club duty with Currin in July.
McEnaney hopes to have McCarron back in a Monaghan jersey the other side of New Year's.
"I'm very disappointed for him, through the National Football League early on in the spring before the lockdown he was going really well for us," Banty told GAA.ie.
"He was going really well in the games he played in and he was going really well in training before the Kerry match.
“Genuinely I'm very disappointed for the lad, he puts in such a huge effort, he lives his life around football and football is his life.
"It is a setback, but as I said to him the morning after he got a bit of work done his recovery starts now and we will get him ready for next spring."
Monaghan are due to play Cavan in the preliminary round of the Ulster Football Championship on October 31/November 1, with the winner progressing to a quarter-final with Antrim.
While disappointed with McCarron's setback, McEnaney says that's his only serious injury concern with the inter-county season approaching.
"The rest of my squad is all okay bar niggly injuries," he said, "For instance Colin Walshe is just back from a hamstring injury with the club. He came on with the club last weekend.
“We would have loved to have got him another two weeks, but the club scenario is the club scenario. Apart from that we have no other problems thank God."
