'Limerick have a great chance'

After coming out the wrong side of encounters against Kilkenny over the past decade, Limerick will have plenty of motivation when the two sides meet in Sunday's All Ireland semi-final.

But can the Treaty County do it, or will the Cats move a step closer to reclaiming the Liam McCarthy Cup?

To get closer to an answer, Jamesie O'Connor and the Sunday Times' Denis Walsh joined us on the line and Jamesie thinks Limerick have a "great chance" and believes they have matured since the 2012 defeat to Kilkenny.

"They're a lot older, they're a lot wiser, they've been in two Munster finals, it's their second All Ireland semi-final. Limerick are certainly better [than in 2012] and I'm not sure Kilkenny are as good as they were back then. On that basis, Limerick have nothing to lose," said Jamesie.

However, Walsh mused whether a physically impressive Limerick can get the scores they need in the pressure cooker of Croke Park.

"With Kilkenny, it doesn't come down to power. It's about how good your hurling is under intense pressure because that's what Kilkenny inflict on teams. So it's a case of how your hurling will stand up under that kind of pressure and that's a question that Limerick haven't had to answer this year yet because they haven't played a team that would put them under the type of pressure that they will experience on Sunday. I wonder about their forwards."

Jamesie believes Limerick can impose themselves a bit more if they can get ball early into full forward Kevin Downes and you can listen to the full preview via the podcast.
