Kerry manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice has given a number of senior players who have not yet committed for the 2017 season until the end of the month to make a decision.
The Irish Times report that Fitzmaurice does not yet know which way Aidan O’Mahony, Kieran Donaghy or Colm Cooper will sway, but says a decision needs to be made sooner rather than later.
"Yeah, Aidan is still thinking about his future, Kieran the same, while Colm is focused on the Crokes at the moment," he said, speaking in Tralee.
"I have nothing firm on any of those at the moment. I haven’t set any deadline as such but I would be expecting to hear from them during the month of January one way or the other because at that stage I think it is time to have made a call and be ready to move forward, whether they are going again or not. But I would be expecting to know during this month either way."
The trio are among a number of older payers in the squad yet to make a decision. Cooper, speaking in November last year, admitted he was still unsure if he would be part of the panel for 2017.
Cooper's club side, Dr. Croke's, will face Galway side Corofin in the Club Championship semi-final this February.
