Kerry GAA name player who failed drugs test

Kerry GAA have named inter-county player Brendan O'Sullivan as the footballer who failed a drugs test last year.

The story was initially reported by John Greene of the Sunday Independent today, stating that the player in question was from a 'prominent county.'

A statement on the Kerry GAA website writes that O'Sullivan's failed test took place after the National League final last year, and was conducted by Sport Ireland.

It goes on to say that Sport Ireland found a rule violation based on the results of the test, but that it was not intentional.

A written decision is expected soon.

O'Sullivan fully cooperated with Sport Ireland, and a suspension has been served.

The full statement reads:

"On the 24th of April 2016 Brendan O'Sullivan (Valentia Young Islanders & Kerry) underwent a routine Sport Ireland doping control test following the Allianz League final.

"The results of the test indicated a rule violation.

"Brendan O’Sullivan fully cooperated in assisting Sport Ireland.

"The subsequent findings of Sport Ireland accepted that the rule violation was not intentional and the resultant suspension has been served.

"Sport Ireland is expected to deliver a written decision shortly. All involved with Kerry GAA are delighted to see Brendan back playing football.

"Kerry County Committee and Team Management will be making no further comments until the Sport Ireland report has been issued."
