Joe Brolly expects Dublin to be even better in 2020 without Jim Gavin

Joe Brolly thinks that Dublin will win the All-Ireland next year and play even better after Jim Gavin's surprise departure as manager this weekend.

The former All-Ireland winner with Derry spoke to Off The Ball on Saturday after Dublin GAA announced Gavin's departure and said that he has no doubts the Dubs will be stronger again next year.

"Because it's part of a healthy balanced lifestyle with the Dubs, I don't think they are going to have any difficulties with motivation.

"In fact, I think that next year they'll probably play with greater freedom. And I fully expect them to play better next year and to win the All-Ireland next year."

However, Brolly said he does not think the Dubs will sustain that level of dominance for too much longer.

"But for example, I think that Kerry's time is coming," Brolly commented.

"That five-in-a-row of minor All-Irelands and with David Clifford set to become one of the greatest ever Gaelic footballers – I don't know if you saw his ludicrously outstanding and sometimes hilarious performances in the Kerry Championship this year but all you could do was clap your hands in delight.

"Kerry are coming there is no doubt, and Dublin I think will certainly win next year, possibly the following year but I think that will probably be it then because other teams are going to start to catch up."

Asked if he thought Dublin's dominance of the All-Ireland was harming the game, Brolly explained it was simply a reality of the GAA in its current format.

"Was Kerry's eight All-Irelands in 11 years good for the game? The reality is there only very few counties who genuinely participate in the All-Ireland.

"My father used to say All-Irelands are for Kerry and Dublin. It's like the hurling, hurling All-Irelands are for Tipperary and Kilkenny."
