Jim Gavin "privileged" to extend Dublin stay

Dublin boss Jim Gavin says he is "privileged" and "excited" to continue his work with the team as he extends his stay with the All-Ireland champions until 2019.

The decision, announced on Wednesday afternoon, will keep Dublin in charge of one of the best inter-county sides in recent memory, having overseen three All-Ireland triumphs in the last four seasons.

Gavin said today there is still more work to be done.

"I'm enjoying it, it's an absolute privilege to be working with this group of players," he told Off The Ball's Nathan Murphy. "There's more talent being developed by the clubs and you're excited to get working with those players.

"I'm having great fun and enjoyment in the role, with great energy to do it. I'm delighted the county board can put this offer on the table."

In a statement today, the Dublin County Board said: "Jim and all of his backroom team have already contributed so much time & hard-work to the Dublin team and we thank them all for their continued efforts."

Since taking charge in 2013, Gavin has lead the team to three consecutive league victories and All-Ireland triumphs in 2013, 2015 and 2016.

In this time, Dublin have also set a new record of going unbeaten in league and championship games. Dublin secured their first back-to-back All-Ireland crowns since the 1970s last October with victory over Mayo.

This year, Gavin is targeting the capital's first three in-a-row since 1924.
