James McCarthy backs Bernard Brogan to don the Dubs jersey again

James McCarthy has soldiered in the trenches with Dublin forward Bernard Brogan for over seven years now, in which time the two Boys in Blue have won five All-Ireland titles together.

McCarthy was as disappointed as every other member of the Dublin senior football panel when his team-mate suffered a serious cruciate ligament injury in training last month.

However McCarthy fully believes that the 34-year-old will get a chance to don the famous sky blue shirt once again, before he eventually calls time on his inter-county career.

"Knowing Bernard, I'm playing with him for a good few years now," McCarthy said this afternoon. "He's an extremely driven and determined fella so I'd say he has every chance of coming back and playing from the knee injury.

"Obviously it's a [bad] injury he's after getting and we wish him all the best with the recovery, it'll probably be a long enough but I don't think we've seen the end of Bernard in a Dublin jersey."

McCarthy first came into the senior panel in 2010 before making his senior championship debut against Laois in the 2011 Leinster quarter-final.

Brogan had been in the panel for four years at that stage and McCarthy spoke about how good he was helping him to settle in.

"He was great. He was straight up to you when you first came in and he was very supportive and you could bounce anything off him. You'd ask him any questions, what does he hate about a defender, he was very supportive like that.

"A great team player, in fairness to Bernard, a brilliant team man."

Ireland’s leading bottled water brand Ballygowan and Energise Sport, part of Britvic Ireland, has today renewed their partnership with Dublin GAA to remain as the official hydration partners of Dublin GAA in a new three-year deal.  The partnership will continue to see Ballygowan and Energise Sport support Dublin hurling and football teams across all age groups including U21 and senior.
