We have a treat for Dublin fans next Wednesday on OTB Sports as Jack McCaffrey is our special guest on the fourth episode of the Bernard Brogan Podcast in association with SuperValu.
McCaffrey stepped away from Dublin Football in June of this year - and in next week's podcast details how and why he came to that decision. Brogan and McCaffrey reflect on their time together with Dublin, and Jack talks about life off the pitch.
The flying wing-back was just 26 years-old and one of football's most decorated players when he departed the Dublin set up in June of this year.
While there were tentative reports spread on social media this week suggesting the former Dublin star may be in line for a return to Dublin Football this week, McCaffrey laughed off the rumours.
"I don't know [where that rumour came from]. I took a step back from social media and all that jazz a couple of years ago," McCaffrey explained.
"You might have been the first person to text me [about it] and I got a few – Dermo was onto me and a couple of people whose names I won't mention who have vested interests were on to me.
"Look, there was a lockdown on and people have a lot of spare time. I'd say someone just thought it would be funny.
"There are not many people who have a big curly head like me. So I find it hard to believe they genuinely thought I was up there. But no, there was no truth in it."
The Clontarf star was named Young Footballer-of-the-Year in his debut season in 2013. Recognition as Footballer-of-the-Year followed in 2015. McCaffrey received All-Stars in '15, '17, '18 and '19 and was named man-of-the-match in both 2018 and 2019's All-Ireland final.
Speaking to Bernard Brogan, McCaffrey goes into further detail about why he decided to step away from intercounty football. We hear about his ambitions off the field, and whether he would ever return to the Dublin set-up.
