Ken McGrath admits he has certain regrets over the course of his career, with the former Waterford hurler citing his altercation with Clare's Gerry Quinn as one of these where he should probably have reached out in the aftermath to offer an apology.
Speaking on tonight's Off The Ball, he recalled the altercation and Quinn and explained what came over him which led him to strike the Clare half-back back in the All-Ireland semi-final in 2002.
"Looking back on it after writing it in the book it probably seems a little immature and selfish on my side," he said. "But I took the stance on it that we've a semi-final to win. What I've done, I've done. I overreacted fully.
"Things were not going too well personally or for the team in the second half. We got a bit of a hurly in the back and it was nothing untoward. Then I got another one and I told him don't do that again. The next time I got it I let fly.
"I caught him on the hand and he went down... I don't do it every game. I don't by any means do it every game. But I had a rush of blood the odd time.
"I didn't want to injure Gerry, it was the last thing I wanted to do and he made it back for the All-Ireland final which I was delighted for.
"We were at the All-Stars in 2002 and he had been nominated and I was there as well. We didn't speak."
