Gary Rogers joins Farney Army as Monaghan goalkeeping coach

Former Dundalk goalkeeper Gary Rogers has swapped codes by agreeing to help out in the backroom team of the Monaghan senior footballers.

It's the latest addition to the Monaghan set up by manager Seamus 'Banty' McEnaney as the Ulster county bid for league and championship success in 2021.

McEnaney recently snapped up top coach Donie Buckley to train the senior team, and 39-year-old Rogers will bring a wealth of experience to the coaching group.

Rogers retired from soccer last month after over two decades in the League of Ireland.

He tasted success with Dundalk, winning four league titles and three FAI Cups. The Meath native also won FAI Cup medals with Drogheda United and Sligo Rovers during a decorated career between the sticks.

Rogers is no stranger to GAA coaching - he's helped out with Meath, Cavan and Westmeath in recent years.

Monaghan suffered a surprise reversal to Cavan in the first round of the 2020 Ulster championship and didn't have a second chance.

They will be in a group with Donegal, Armagh and Tyrone when the Allianz National Leagues resume at the end of February.
