It was a relatively easy win for the Westmeath footballers in the end, as they secured promotion to Division 3 at the expense of Wexford in Croke Park today.
It's a first Allianz League title for the side since 2008 for Tom Cibbin's side, thanks in part to goals from Shane Dempsey Ger Egan which brings their unbeaten campaign to a successful end.
Kevin O'Grady and Donal Shanley responded with goals for Wexford, but Westmeath's scoring point-scoring power amassed an insurmountable 24 points in all, eight of which came from the boot of John Heslin.
And in the end, it was too high a mountain for Wexford to scale, who lost out heavily to Westmeath in the group stage meeting between the two sides in March.
