GALLERY: Galway and Offaly avoid slip ups to progress to the next round of Leinster

Galway had minimum difficulty in dispatching Westmeath at Cusack Park this afternoon, outscoring their opponents 3-27 to 0-19.

The lake county found themselves on the backfoot early on as Galway's class showed, and they trailed the tribesmen by 0-17 to 0-05 at the break.

Hopes of a miraculous comeback were stunted when Shane Power was shown red for an off the ball incident with Joe Canning, which forced the full-forward to be withdrawn from the game after scoring 0-08 points.

The three goals arrived in the second half, with Jason Flynn, Joseph Cooney and Conor Whelan all netting.

Galway progress to the semi-finals, where they will meet Offaly.

The faithful county had a similarly comfortable win against Laois at O'Connor Park, winning 3-22 to 2-14.

Shane Dooley was talismatic for the home side, hitting 11 points as the home side put their recent defeat to Westmeath behind them.

The sides were level at the break at 1-10 apiece, with James Mulrooney getting the goal for Offaly, and PJ Scully for Laois, but the second half was a different affair.

Joe Bergin raised the green flag within a minute of the restart which was followed by a Dooley goal to put Offaly in complete control of this Leinster semi-final.

Willie Dunphy bagged a three pointer as a very late consolation for Laois, but they now must look towards the qualifiers.
