Free-scoring Patrick Purcell puts Meath victory down to 'work-rate'

Laois enjoyed back-to-back wins in the Leinster SHC round-robin series with victory over Meath on Sunday afternoon.

Patrick Purcell racked up an impressive 3-6 during the course of the game at Pairc Tailteann and explained their victory came as a result of an improved work-rate from the team.

"We were happy with our result but we were disappointed with our performance last week," he told Midlands Sport after the match.

"The work-rate was massive today, I think we must have stepped it up about 50%. We knew what they would be about. We'd have to match them fire with fire. We knew we'd have to match their work-rate and we did that."

Free-scoring Purcell also put his own good form down to the fact that his supply of quick ball was so good.

"All I did was put it over, the boys through it out to me. I can't ask for much more than that."

The win leaves them in rude health heading to Kerry for their final game of the series, and Purcell was optimistic about their chances of progressing.

"Three wins in-a-row and then go down to Kerry to hopefully turn them over after losing twice to them. We want to go into a Leinster quarter-final with three wins in the round-robin.

"Today we came up to get the win and that's what we got."

A Leinster quarter-final date would see them come up against Wexford or Offaly.
