Dublin's Paddy Andrews retires from inter county football

Paddy Andrews has announced that he is hanging up his blue Dublin jersey, calling it a day after 12 years playing senior inter county football.

The St Brigids club player won seven All Ireland titles, 11 Leinster senior medals and five National Leagues with the Metropolitans.

Andrews was not involved when Dublin made the breakthrough in 2011, but he was brought into the fold under Jim Gavin.

He actually started off as a defender and played in the full-back line when Dublin suffered a 17 point hammering by Kerry in the 2009 All Ireland quarter-final.

Reinventing himself as a forward, he started the 2013, 2016 and 2017 finals against Mayo and the 2015 decider versus Kerry.

A regular part of a talented and competitive Dublin front six, he's the first player to retire since the county won their sixth Sam Maguire Cup in a row last month.
