Donegal boss Rory Gallagher a "wee bit disappointed" not to close out Monaghan clash

Donegal manager Rory Gallagher admits he is a little bit disappointed not to hold out for victory against Monaghan in their Ulster championship semi-final.

A 1-11 to 0-14 draw means both sides will have to go through a replay next Saturday after a match in which Donegal's Martin McElhinney was dismissed.

"It was a really exciting end-to-end game. I think there were lots of ebbs and flows and we're probably a wee bit disappointed that we didn't close it out. But, listen, Monaghan are a great team and you have the likes of Conor [McManus] kicking them savage scores and fair play to him," Gallagher told Off The Ball's Dave McIntyre.

As for the more tempestuous moments between both sets of players, Gallagher says the fact that they have played each other so often may have contributed to that.

"There's a lot at stake and we know each other very well and I suppose it happens in big games like that," he added.
