Kieran Donaghy’s Football Championship All-Star 15

Kieran Donaghy was on Thursday’s OTB AM and picked out the 15 players he felt deserved to make the All-Star team.

The team was mostly made up of Dublin and Kerry players with a number of big names from sides who failed to make the final missing out.

Donegal’s talisman Michael Murphy and Mayo’s Aiden O’Shea didn’t make the side but Donaghy stood by his choices.

“I think they’re both centre-forwards and Seanie O’Shea was better,” Donaghy said opting for his fellow Kerryman.

Elsewhere in the forwards, the Austin Stacks man felt that Tyrone’s star player Cathal McShane had done enough to be the only Ulsterman in the team.

“I thought McShane for Tyrone this year was just unbelievable. And unbelievable in every game he played.

“I covered him twice. His movement, his strength. Any ball is a good ball. He’s very like Con O’Callaghan inside there,” Donaghy commented.

Donaghy had plenty of praise for O’Callaghan himself. Although he moved him out of his favoured number 14 shirt he didn’t think it would negatively impact the Cuala man.

“Con O’Callaghan can be equally as lethal out at 10. I don’t think McShane is a wing-forward. He’s an out and out scorer.

“I think you could play Con at half-back and he’d be an absolute Rolls Royce of a player.”

Elsewhere, David Clifford made the side put teammate Paul Geaney missed out while Paddy Durcan was the only Mayo man to make the team.
