Dublin forward Dean Rock says Mayo captain Cillian O'Connor doesn't owe the county anything following his free-kick miss in today's All Ireland Football Final replay.
O'Connor, who spurned the opportunity to pull Mayo level in the final minute of the game when he sent his free left of the Dublin posts, has received tremendous support online in the hours following the final whistle, and Dublin free-taker, Dean Rock, was quick to join in during his post-game interviews.
"He's a great free taker and missing a free like that doesn't make him a bad free taker. It's like me the last day, you miss a few frees and people come out and think you're a bad free taker, that's not the case. He'll kick many winning points in the future in big games so I wouldn't be doubting him whatsoever".
Rock, who scored seven of his nine points from frees, sympathised with O'Connor over the miss, but backed him to come back strong next season.
"It's tough, when it comes down to the last game of the season and you miss a big kick like that of course it's difficult to take, but he's a very competitive man and I'm sure he'll come back. He's the captain of Mayo and he doesn't owe them anything at this stage".
