Dara O'Cinneide explains why Kerry's Paul Murphy has been a "success story" from the league

Former Kerry star Dara O'Cinneide believes Paul Murphy has been a "success story" for the Kingdom during this Allianz League campaign.

The centre-forward has made an impression as Kerry reached Sunday's league final against Dublin.

O'Cinneide joined Off The Ball to look ahead to the Kerry perspective for the match as well as what it is to come afterwards as the Munster championship looms large on the horizon.

"It's a point over the years, Donnchadh Walsh would have done a particular job for Kerry over the years and I always felt certain games, that you needed two Donnchadh Walshes - guys that do the unfashionable work, that get into positions and do the simple things like be the receiver for a sideline kick or quick free around midfield, be an outlet for balls coming out of defence," he said.

"Up to now since he's been given the job in the Down game, Paul Murphy has been doing that very well, to great effect against Monaghan and again against Cork and Roscommon the last day. It's a genuine option at this stage. Now after five or six games in the position, this is a real live runner for championship football.

"Because I think that's always been Eamon Fitzmaurice's mantra, and many other managers as well, what can we try out in the league that will be seen to work in the championship. That definitely is a success story in terms of Paul Murphy."

O'Cinneide also believes Murphy's role will have a positive knock-on effect for the forwards like Colm Cooper.
