Based on 2013, this could be the one of the most competitive era of hurling after years of Kilkenny domination.
Damien Lawlor's new book Fields of Fire: The Inside Story of Hurling's Great Renaissance charts part of that recent history with exclusive interviews with a range of hurling greats and figures including Eddie Brennan, Cha Fitzpatrick, Brendan Cummins, John Mullane, Davy Fitzgerald, Damien Hayes, Liam Dunne, DJ Carey and Ger Cunningham.
The award-winning Sunday Independent GAA correspondent joined the lads in studio to talk about the book which looks at Kilkenny's domination and how the Cats' rivals dealt with that era and fought back.
"Last year was a turning point. Every week got better and better. I went down to see Carlow push Wexford, Laois push Galway and then a few weeks later, Wexford pushed Clare," said Lawlor, who also highlighted the massive clash at Nowlan Park between Kilkenny and Tipp.
He also spoke about and the fascinating characters in the game - including Kilkenny's Jackie Tyrell - and their interactions with the media and public.
Lawlor also spoke about the insight he got about the way Brian Cody's Kilkenny managed to sustain such superhuman levels of success for so long and the roots of Clare's renaissance.
