Ahead of Sunday's Ladies Gaelic Football final, Cork skipper Doireann O'Sullivan has welcomed the vote to merge the GPA and the WGPA.
96% of women members and 100% of male members have backed an amalgamation, which is set to deliver a 50-50 gender balance on the union's board of directors going forward.
O'Sullivan says treatment around expenses was a key issue and should be the same for any GAA player.
"I think it's a huge step forward for us. I can only see positives coming from it. One of the topics discussed was travel expenses. We have three girls travelling from Beara, we have two girls travelling from Dublin, three nights a week to come down training. So I think that is the big one. I don't think anyone should be out of pocket for representing their county. Obviously we are not looking to get paid, but just to get covered for the travel and the mileage the girls are clocking up."
O'Sullivan also supports the concept of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association being a part of the GAA, rather than a separate Association, as is currently the case.
"I think that would be exciting. As well as pitch availability, the thought of double headers would be really exciting. We've done it twice now and it's been very good. The men are playing on Saturday and we're playing on Sunday. It is something that I would think is exciting to explore - the thought of the GAA and the LGFA coming under one umbrella."
Cork face Dublin at Croke Park on Sunday and O'Sullivan would love one day to be playing in front of 82,000 spectators. For her, a LGFA under the GAA banner could make that more of a possibility.
"I know this year, attendance isn't an issue. The thought of playing in front of a full Croke Park is every woman footballer's dream. When I started in 2012, I think we had 20,000 at games. We have doubled that now, but Croke Park has the potential to nearly double it again."
However, in response, the Ladies Gaelic Football Association have downplayed the idea of that double header happening any time soon.
"We've had an attendance of 56,114 for our Finals in 2019, with Junior, Intermediate and Senior accommodated on the same day, and that will continue to be the case.
"It's not feasible at this point in time to say that you could hold a Senior Ladies final ahead of a Men's Final. We have three finals on All-Ireland Final day in a normal day/year, not just one."
