Former Mayo footballer Conor Mortimer has a new autobiography out, ghost-written by Jackie Cahill and tonight he joined Off The Ball to talk about perceptions of himself and his intercounty career.
He opened up about his intercounty breakthrough under John Maughan and how opinion is divided about the former Mayo manager, while he also spoke about the low points during John O'Mahony's time in charge.
He also chatted about the end of his Mayo career under James Horan and the ins and outs of that situation.
"He's not the loveable type of manager. But none are," said Mortimer, who detailed why they parted ways.
"He obviously wanted to keep me on the panel. There's no doubt about that. For me, it was the manager didn't fancy the player enough to play. Too much stuff had gone on, in my head."
He said the main regret about that situation is that it meant he never played for Mayo again, although the 32-year-old also spoke about the likelihood of ever pulling on the green and red again.
Mortimer also said he had not watched the harrowing 2006 All Ireland final defeat to Kerry until the time came to get the book written.
