Tyrone's Colm Cavanagh doesn't like playing in the qualifiers

Tyrone midfielder Colm Cavanagh says he doesn't like playing in the qualifiers as the Red Hand county book their place in Round 4 with a 10-point win over Kildare.

Mickey Harte's men had the upper hand over the Lillywhites in Newbridge throughout the game, running out winners by 2:22 to 1:15.

Speaking after the game, Colm Cavanagh who got a point was asked if he enjoyed playing through the qualifier rounds, "I don't. Look, Tyrone have a strong record in the qualifiers, that goes without saying. It's never the way you want to go.

"And no team would say they want to go on this road. You see parts of Ireland you never saw before. We'll take it whatever way we can get it. As the cliche goes, take it game by game. Wait to see who we get in the next round, rebuild, focus and go again, because its a long road back to the Super 8s."

The Red Hand county entered through the back-door in seven of the last nine years, winning the Anglo-Celt cup in 2016 and 2017.

However, they have a good record in the qualifiers with their last defeat coming in Round 2 in 2014 against Armagh.

Cavanagh also spoke about the Tyrone supporters travelling to Newbridge in numbers to support their county, he said "it's one thing about Tyrone supporters in that they'll come out in numbers.

"People love coming out and supporting Tyrone. Further down the line more will be coming out. It is fantastic. Like last week, Tyrone had a serious amount of support in Longford and seeing here today - it's a credit to them.

"Thank god we were able to put in a performance and give them something to be happy about."

The draw for Round 4 of the qualifiers takes place on Monday morning, with the winner of each tie booking a place in the Super 8s.
