Dublin's Ciaran Kilkenny on the "hardest part" after winning an All-Ireland

Dublin's Ciaran Kilkenny is already missing the inter-county setup in the weeks after securing another All-Ireland football title.

On a personal level, his own individual performances in 2016 were rewarded with an All-Star, having also been part of the team of the year in 2015.

Mayo's Lee Keegan won All-Star Footballer of the Year at Friday night's ceremony, while Kilkenny was one of six Dublin players included in the team of the year.

Speaking to Newstalk's Dave McIntyre, Kilkenny did note one minor downside to winning the All-Ireland.

"It's brilliant the fact we won the All-Ireland as well this year. That was the most important thing to myself and the group," he said.

"To win another All-Ireland, another National League, another Leinster title with those lads... it's such a special group, this Dublin team. Probably the most difficult thing about winning the All-Ireland is the come-down. You start missing the lads, you start missing being around the group and the training because it's just such a special team and the craic we have is unbelievable and that's probably the hardest part of actually winning the All-Ireland is the fact that you're not training the next week.

While the 23-year-old is missing the camaraderie within the inter-county setup, he is also savouring a county final with his club Castleknock.

"But it's great that I've rolled into a club campaign and it's extra special at my club because my club was playing junior football only a few years ago and we're up to a senior county final against a great Vincent's side," he said.

"It's special for the club [after] only being founded in 1998 and you could even sense that uniqueness after the last game against Judes - people who'd played with the club five or six years ago and just how much it meant to them, the volunteers and the mentors."
