Bernard Brogan says he will be involved with the Dublin senior footballers for at least one more year.
The 32-year-old was dropped from the Dublin starting team for the All-Ireland football final replay against Mayo, having begun the first final.
It had led to speculation about the four-time All-Ireland winner's future.
But speaking to Off The Ball's Dave McIntyre at the launch of the 2016 Sporting Industry Awards, he won't be calling it a day at inter-county level anytime soon.
"I've been very lucky to be an automatic pick for a long time. But I'm ultra-competitive and I love this Dublin team. It's a very special group and I want to get back next year and prove to Jim that I can perform," he said.
Brogan also spoke about manager Jim Gavin's decision to drop him, with the player praising him for the way he went about informing him.
"Obviously you never know what the manager is going to do but I definitely noted we weren't up to the performance we should have been at in the first game," he explained.
"When you come back out again, there's so many lads going well in training and you have to respect that and Jim and the management always respect lads who are working hard and playing well, so we knew there were going to be changes and I would have felt myself that I was in the mix for these changes.
"So when he said it to me, obviously I was massively disappointed but he pulled me aside and gave me the respect and had a good chat with me about it and gave me his reasons for it. He said to me 'you're going to have at least 20 minutes and when you come on, you're not coming off, so get on there and express yourself and bring us home'. It was a different challenge and it actually gave me a lot of energy to be honest with you because it's a very pressurised environment when you're starting in that full-forward line."
