The issue of being a dual player has been debated at length in recent years with worries over burnout.
But what is it actually like to take up both hurling and football at senior intercounty level?
Aidan Walsh has been doing just that for Cork and is enjoying the challenge.
"People think when you're doing dual that you're out every night but it's not like that at all. This week I'm with the footballers because we've got a Championship game. So far it's worked out well and it's just focusing on the next game and not getting bogged down," said Walsh, who wants to make the most of the opportunity of playing both codes, although he did acknowledge the risk of burnout.
"The week before the Munster Football final, I remember coming down in the car and pinching myself that I had two Munster finals coming up!"
Walsh, who makes hurls for a living, also revealed the different emotions in both the hurling and football camps in Cork with the former having won a Munster title and the other losing a provincial decider.
"The contrast within camps would be a bit different because the hurlers are in an All Ireland semi-final and performing well but the football is in a bit of a blip and we want to redeem ourselves on Saturday [against Sligo]," he said.
Cork's match against Sligo is live on Off The Ball this Saturday. Throw in is at 5pm.
