FAI inform Gardai of threats made to staff

Threats made against FAI staff have been reported to the Gardai by the association.

The Irish Times report that FAI Interim Executive Paul Cooke told staff, in an email circulated last week, that they are in contact with Gardai in relation to threats made to a number of staff members in light of recent revelations surrounding the association.

The threats come on foot of last week's publication by the FAI of its 2018 accounts. They revealed the association's huge debt, with current net liabilities of €55 million.

In light of this latest development, the FAI has put safety measures in place to ensure the continued safety of its staff.

There has been an increase in security measures at the FAI campus at Abbotstown, while staff impacted are cooperating with the Gardai.

The threats come during a turbulent time for staff at the FAI, with many concerned for their future employment given the perilous financial state of the organisation at present.

The FAI today [Tuesday] announced it was refusing an invitation to attend the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport.

In a statement, the FAI said that 'The focus of the Board at this moment in time remains the refinancing package that will guarantee the future of the FAI and safeguard jobs, as well as the appointment of an Independent Chairperson and Independent Directors.'
