Patrice Evra apologises for Joleon Lescott 'hairline' jibe

Former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has apologised for making a joke about Joleon Lescott's scarred forehead.

Evra was parodying a news programme on Twitter ahead of the Euro 2020 match between Netherlands and Czech Republic.

Patrice Evra on Lescott

Evra makes a comment that pertained to the city of Amsterdam,  'where people like to get as high as Joleon Lescott's forehead'.

The injury to Lescott was due to a car crash when Lescott was five years old .

Evra was swift to say sorry for the comment, on Twitter:

'I have to apologise to Joleon Lescott and his family, the joke was never meant to cause hurt, it was only meant as light hearted banter, had I known then what I know now, I would have never of [sic] said this. Jo, I hope you can accept my apology," wrote Evra.

Outspoken

Evra has come close to alienating people before with his outspoken punditry.

He explained after Manchester United's 6-1 loss to Tottenham in October 2020 that some of the playing staff 'needed a slap.'

"I know you have to have some filter when you talk on TV, but it's a shambles. Gary Neville, I heard him say that the captain Harry Maguire needs a holiday or a break. We're always talking about pairing him with someone, but what about taking him out of the squad?

"I don't want to start to criticise players, because I've been there. I've made many comments on the board, but tonight nobody can have any excuses. they let down all of the United fans. Every year is the same story.

"I feel now what all of the United fans feel, that's why I would prefer to do a different game to the United game if I keep working for Sky... I'm really emotional right now. It is difficult to break a man like me because I am a positive person. I don't promote violence, but many people need a good slap right now in this club."
