Former Republic of Ireland manager Brian Kerr joined Stephen Doyle after Manchester City swept past Everton at Goodison Park.
Manchester City are on track for the Premier League title, just like everyone expected.
City comfortably beat Everton at Goodison Park as the gulf of class between the two teams was emphasized. The defeat leaves Everton 17th in the table, just one point above the relegation zone. Southampton's relegation has been confirmed as they sit on 24 points with two games to go. But Leicester have 30 points with three games to go and Leeds United are on 31 points with two games to go.
So will Everton stay up? Stephen Doyle asked Brian Kerr.
"Yeah, I think they showed enough today [in defeat to Manchester City]," Kerr answered.
"Obviously against Brighton they were superb on Monday. They got a good draw against Leicester from being behind. And even today, I thought they showed a lot of heart, endeavor and graft in the second half despite being 3-0 down.
"And they showed a bit of quality. Particularly in the midfield positions."
Everton manager Sean Dyche knows how to manage a relegation battle.
He's done so successfully in previous seasons with Burnley. And fortunately for him, their final two games are against teams they can expect to get points from. Wolves are safe from relegation in 13th position with 40 points and Bournemouth are one spot and one point behind them. Also safe from relegation.
At this stage of the season, you want to play those midtable teams because they have nothing to play for. Whereas other teams are fighting for Europe or staving off relegation. Everton can play teams who don't really need to win.
Manchester United must still improve significantly, says John Giles.
