Euro 2020 exit sees Frank de Boer sacked as Netherlands boss

Frank de Boer has lost his job as Netherlands head coach following their Euro 2020 exit at the hands of the Czech Republic.

Sunday's 2-0 defeat in Budapest proved to be the 51-year old's final act as Oranje manager.

De Boer was only appointed 279 days ago, following the departure to Barcelona of Ronald Koeman.

The 51-year old's departure leaves the KNVB on the lookout for a new boss, with their World Cup qualifying campaign resuming away to Norway on September 1.

The Netherlands sit second in Group G following wins over Latvia and Gibraltar. However, they started the group with a 4-2 defeat to Turkey.

Despite a promising start to the Euro 2020 finals, De Boer's latest foray into management can only be regarded as another failure.

The Ajax legend lasted just 14 games at Inter when he replaced Roberto Mancini in 2016. De Boer had just five games, and 77 days at the helm of Crystal Palace before the Premier League club gave him the boot.

"The objective has not been achieved, that is clear," De Boer said in a parting statement.

"When I was approached to become national coach in 2020, I thought it was an honour and a challenge, but I was also aware of the pressure that would come upon me from the moment I was appointed, that pressure is only increasing now, and that is not a healthy situation for me, nor for the squad in the run-up to such an important match for the Dutch football on its way to World Cup qualification.

"I want to thank everyone, of course the fans and the players. My compliments also to the management who have created a real top sports climate here on campus."
