Newcastle 'looking abroad' for next head coach

When it comes to Alan Pardew's departure from Newcastle to Crystal Palace, it's just a question of crossing the Ts and dotting the i's according to The Telegraph's North East football correspondent Luke Edwards.

He joined us on the line tonight to talk about the latest development on the long path between the Parks of St James's and Selhurst and what the move means for Newcastle and Pardew himself.

As a lightning rod for fan frustration departs, Edwards hinted that a foreign coach may be sought by owner Mike Ashley.

"I've heard they're looking abroad which is quite interesting because he's only ever appointed British managers. The foreign coach - and I say coach deliberately - is an interesting one because obviously one of Pardew's big gripes was that he never had control of recruitment," said Edwards.

But he also believes that Hull manager and North East native Steve Bruce would be interested in the job, while he feels Tony Pulis would be "too abrasive" for the role under Mike Ashley's tenure.
